Welcome To
 South Conway
Elementary School where "Together We CAN!"August 23, 2010 Dear Parents, I would like to take this opportunity to personally welcome you to our school family. There is a great deal of excitement in the air at South Conway. We were one of only two schools in the Conway attendance area that met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). This represents the hard work that was done by our students, teachers, and parents. Together we can celebrate this accomplishment. We have established several goals for the upcoming school year. These include a continued focus on reading instruction, interventions to assist students academically, a focus on improving our students’ writing skills, and service learning projects on each grade level. We also want to continue to work to build strong relationships with our students and their families. Our teachers have worked very hard to create classroom environments that are inviting for our students. Remember it takes a village to raise a child. Anytime you are visiting our school, please remember to report to the office and sign in. You will need your driver’s license for the School Check In System to be issued a visitor’s badge. These procedures are a part of our school’s safety plan. An extended visit is only allowed when scheduled through both the principal and teacher. It is our goal to protect instructional time by not interrupting classes once the day begins. You are always welcome to visit our Family Resource Center to check out materials to assist you in helping your child. We are always in search of volunteers to assist us throughout the school year. In order to volunteer, you must complete a Volunteer Application. District Policy requires that all volunteers must be approved, including those that participate in field trips. This process takes about two weeks. Applications are available from the Family School Coordinator at our school. Beginning, September 7, 2010, all car riders are to be dropped off at the car rider entrance which is located on the side of the building. On this date we would like to ask parents to allow their children to enter the building alone as we work on helping your children become responsible and independent. We will always have staff available to assist students, if needed, getting to class. The front entrance of the school is designated as the bus entrance only. Our school day begins at 7:25 a.m. with the tardy bell ringing at 7:35 a.m. Teachers are beginning instruction promptly at 7:35 a.m. so please help your child to be at school on time. Students that arrive after the tardy bell will need to be signed in by a parent in the front office. Dismissal is at 2:25 p.m. All changes in transportation home must be put into writing and given to the teacher or office staff in the morning. Our Parent-Student Handbook is a valuable tool to keep you informed about school procedures and monthly events. The calendar-book will answer many of your questions about holidays and program dates. I would like to draw your attention to the back cover of the calendar. There you will find a Parent Contract that provides suggestions to help you become actively involved in your child’s education. Students may bring book bags to school if needed; however, rolling bags are not allowed in the hallways. Our goal is for every student to have a successful school year. We need your support in order to achieve this goal. We are looking forward to another great year. Sincerely, Leon E. Hayes, Principal
